Item Number Restamp

Reclassing items in IP can cause system overhead, but sometimes reclassing is necessary.  However, if your business changes in such a way that a large number of items needs to be reclassed in order to accommodate your needs, the resulting overhead caused could cripple your system.

Perhaps you need to create a new department or division, and reassign items to that department/division. Maybe you need to split existing vendor, color, or size numbers into more finite numbers.  An existing class may need to be split into more than one class in order to accommodate your business needs.  Whatever the reason, rather than Reclass a large number of items in IP, consider choosing a 'Restamp' instead.

What is a Restamp?
In a traditional IP Reclass, a new IP Item Number must be created (or a current IP Item Number must be selected), then the 'old' item number needs to be reclassed to the other IP Item Number.  After the reclass instructions are processed, there are actually two (2) item records in the system for that single item - the 'old' and the 'new'.  Any time there is activity on the 'old' item number, the system must make an additional pass to 'reclass' the number to its 'new' number before processing can be continued. more information...

I'd like to know more about the Item Restamp Process.
